I love letters

There is nothing quite like receiving a letter in the post.  The thrill of opening the envelope, with a feeling of nervous anticipation as you unfold the letter, watching as the handwriting becomes apparent, stretching across the pages.  Then that moment that one wishes would last forever, as you sit down to read the words, becoming lost in the thoughts that the writer is sharing with you.

Today was one of those days.  An envelope arrived for me, I saw it as I was rushing out the door, grabbed it popped it in my bag, only to open it later and find the most encouraging and supportive words from my friend Jilly.  My heart felt uplifted and my face full of smiles, as I read over her words.  I was encouraged.

Thank you Jilly, for taking the time to write.  Thank you for your uplifting words.  Thank you.  Your's is a letter that I will read again and again.

It is the most magical time, reading and writing letters.  One that I treasure.

My heart always soars when I see a letter address to me in the pile of post.  Sometimes, I can tell who has written by the handwriting or postmark.  Other times it is all an adventure, that only becomes clear as I read the words.

I have bundles of letters, that I read and reread.  Again and again and again.  Sometimes years passing in between readings.  They are precious to me. Letters from my beloved Gran, or Auntie Bell.  Letters from friends who live on other sides of the world.  I store letters in boxes, but sometimes I find a letter in the middle of a book, and I feel a joy as I open it and start to read again.  Instantly transported back to the time when the letter was written.

Letters are precious ... if your thinking about writing one, write it.  You will give a timeless gift to the one you write to.

That's it for now...
